I’ve just created a photo book that will be up for purchase soon..

The title is called Contrasting Emotion.

I’ve wanted to make something like this for awhile now but wasn’t sure how to pack so many photos together that all have relevance or create a story so I did my best to compare images through what emotion I feel from the space that is presented. Photography has shown me that it’s the subtleties that draw a distinction in a mood or feeling when viewed. I’ve had a great deal of friends to photograph during our artistic adventures and I love remembering the little moments I get to spend with each person. Sometimes it’s bliss and sometimes it’s hectic.. that’s just the way it is. I’ll throw a link below for the purchasing of the book.

This is isn’t my usual type of night photography and setting especially using a little Sony Infinity6000 as well as shooting from the inside of a vehicle. Night photography I feel pops and almost neon sign looking, unfortunately I didn’t have any signs to shoot at the moment so I thought the sky could use a slice of lightning. The rest of them I did a little work but some I kept more original just for the textures of the rain. I really enjoyed editing some of these and shooting night stuff has definitely gotten easier because I’m aware of what to bring to compensate. This area of Southern California can be unpredictable with rain, hale, lightning, but at the same time we have some of the best skies that put us in a state of bliss on a gloomy day.

This shoot was very successful, we all actually had our cameras and were able to switch off capturing. Skateboarding has brought us together and has made us progress in a multi media world. This place we have come to congregate at is like our oasis. I love looking back on sequences that show a slice of time and looking back on it fills me up with those memories. Our work is shown through different companies that wish to advertise or sponsor us but our real goal is just to inspire other creatives in our community and abroad.

Environmental portraits encapsulate and highlight the surrounding area which is something that I understood going to into the project but didn’t realize how much of it I see on a daily basis. We see men and women everyday living their lives, going from point a to b in parking lots or adventuring off into the hills with no end. The pandemic has affected our communication and our sense of community negatively but I believe that we are adapting to the change for the better. In the coming weeks I will be focusing more on some environmental portraiture and people of the artistic community.

I shot this with Gabe and my boy Hugo around Encinitas last week. We were skating around UCSD for a bit then saw this weird ditch spot had already been skated so of course we wanted to at least check it out. When we got here it was about another hour of sunlight left before it the footage would get grainy but it was just enough time. I got a few different sequences in different angles and attempts but this one great because it just so centered and the way the light stays on top as he skates further down the dark ditch to me gives a sense of perspective.

No I wasn’t driving when I took this shot. I really like the way photos of moving things look when they’re stopped. Capturing moments in time is a beautiful thing, so having these photos in black and white help me keep this memory alive.

I enjoy making triptychs because of the story line that can be perceived through them. The story behind this series is a simple BBQ. I love the process of making food but charcoal grills can be a pain and although it’s a pain I find the process kind of beautiful.
